Artist Statement
As a landscape architect, I have a great appreciation for
natural environments, designed spaces and special places
that people enjoy being in. As a native Californian, I am
especially drawn to the diverse natural and manmade
environments of this state. I spent some concentrated time
learning the techniques of plein air painting in 1999 and
2000 while I was living in Rhode Island, but it wasn’t until
I returned to California in 2001 that my desire and
motivation to paint landscapes became supremely
energized. The foothills, coastal landscapes and unique
neighborhoods of California feed my soul. Through
painting I celebrate the uniqueness of my home state and
the joy of returning home.
